Professor of Archeology Henrietta “Harry” Knight becomes Countess of Axedale upon her father’s death and takes a sabbatical from Cambridge University to begin refurbishing the long-neglected and run-down Axedale Hall. The child of a loveless marriage, witness to her father’s infidelities and her mother’s pain, Harry has no intention of ever falling in love.

Annie Brannigan is a survivor, remaining positive through hardships. As an agency housekeeper, she moves from post to post with her daughter Riley, taking care of people who have everything she will never have. Annie’s greatest wish is to find her happy ever after.

Can love restore the countess’s heart and the crumbling Axedale Hall, or will the first foundations of love turn to dust?

I had this one downloaded for a while now and I have to say I loved it! I downloaded the sample and was hooked and pretty much devoured it in one sitting. I'm a quick reader and this comes in at 295 pages so a good decent read.

I really enjoyed the story and the interaction between the main characters Henrietta (Harry) and Annie. Harry is pretty damaged by her parents dysfunctional relationship and this really destroys her ability to trust and love those around her. In fact at the beginning of the book you're not liking her very much but as you come to understand why she is the way she is and how she changes and grows in to someone actually worth knowing, you find yourself going from wanting to kick her in the pants to hoping that she'll get her act together before she loses her chance at life long happiness.

Annie is a housekeeper and a damn good one too. She works tirelessly to provide a decent life for herself and her daughter Riley. She's well sort after and takes a new post at Axedale Hall. Her welcome didn't go as well as she hoped and Countess Henrietta Knight (Henry) isn't exactly the most wonderful employer that she's ever had and Harry just doesn't seem to want her daughter anywhere near her and precious artifacts. It makes her wonder how long this posting can really last.
However she sees potential at Axedale Hall both in the Hall that's undergoing extensive renovations to bring it back to its former glory and its owner, who really needs some serious renovation herself. Deciding that Axedale Hall and the surrounding village and its inhabitants are the perfect place to raise her daughter Ms Annie Brannigan sets about bringing her Ladyship's life and Hall into the immaculate order that it should be.

I seriously loved this story. It did two things I love. It made me care about the characters and it made me cry. I couldn't stop reading... I wanted, no I needed the happily ever after! I enjoyed the storyline and character building and the change that Harry underwent throughout. Do yourself a favour and download the sample... it costs nothing and I'm pretty sure you enjoy it as much as I did.

What a lovely book! I enjoyed this story tremendously. The characters are very likeable and I had no trouble getting into their heads and understanding their issues. I will highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to read a lovely book with a great romance!
This book had all the good features of a trope-y paperback romance novel, but with lesbians. There was no gay crisis, no cheating on husbands/fiancés/boyfriends, and sex wasn’t the entire basis of their relationship (Don’t worry, there is sex, but it’s incorporated into the story). These are things that really irritate me about most lesbian romance novels. It was a delight to read.
What a lovely book! Ms. Frame has written another lovely book! The character development was well done. I loved arrogant
Harry and the way Annie set out to "court" her into realizing what a loving relationship was like. I totally adored Riley. What an adorable child. Very endearing! Well done!
Courting the Countess is a gorgeous, perfectly paced romance with a delicious burn to it. As Harry warms up to Annie, she wants to race straight to the bedroom, and Annie’s having none of it. She knows her worth, she’s waiting for true love, and she knows Harry’s the woman for her. But how can it work when the woman for her doesn’t believe in love? Therein lies the angst bomb that had me texting the friend who recommended the book to me, possibly with a lot of caps and exclamation marks. Harry truly transforms by the end of the book, and every second of her journey had me transfixed.
A good set up, but not very realistic. The characters are mainly cardboard cut-outs with only one major characteristic, so it gets a little dull reading about how they handle same struggle page after page. When the title character does change, it's not particularly believable, but most of this work is just wish fulfillment. I think a few episodes of Downton Abbey could have improved the author's understanding of how an estate works and added some depth to a "cross-class" romantic involvement.
What a wonderful book, ever since I discovered Jenny Frame I started reading her books, this one the 2nd one an I spend some amazing time reading it. It gave me chills and I even felt anxious and desperate to keep reading while I was at work.

I loved Annie, she's knows how to hold her ground with someone as intense as Harry is in the books, I felt sorry for Riley, but I loved how well written all the characters were. They had a great character development and that was what amaze me. You could see all the changes, not just at the state, but with everything round Axedale.

A must read, I've learn that you'll never get dissapointed when you read a book from Jenny Frame.
i enjoyed this book, not because the two main characters secretly fall in love, but the way Harry is around Riley. I love Riley and Harry have an archelogical site in their back yard. Harry is a bitter countess who wants to refurbish Axedale because her father ran it down and spent all the family's money. But she doesn't want to stay in Axedale and be the actual Countess. Annie is hire on as the housekeeper, but becomes so much more to everyone's lives in Axedale. I love Bridget, the preacher.
